For the production of rubber granules and powders TerniEnergia uses an innovative technology that provides a first phase of volumetric reduction of the out-of-use tire and subsequently a mechanical grinding phase at room temperature. The generated material is subsequently sifted and cleaned to obtain a perfect separation of the steel, the textile fiber, the powder and the rubber granule of the different granulometries. The cleaned granulate is packed in big-bag, the loose steel is collected in roll-off trucks for transport in steel mill and the textile fiber collected for off-site energy valorization.
The following separation result is obtained from the tire processing step:
